I Have the Coolest Students

Sea Turtle by Debra Cox

Every now and then I've just got to do a little bragging on my students.  I have amazing students in my local classes.  Here is a colored pencil drawing created for Debi's granddaughter.  It took many many patient hours to create.

Vintage aluminum cups by Justine Hennessy

My online students at Creative Pencils are no less amazing.  How proud I am of them as they bravely move forward through the workshops to build their drawing skills.  In the Pencils Series, 101, 201, & 301, the students learn to draw what they see and the basics of shading.  They move forward quickly.  These shiny vintage aluminum cups were drawn as a part of one of those shading exercises.  I love that Justine captured the sheen of the metal.

Cat portrait by Sandra Petersen

Several of my Creative Pencils students have been studying their way through a workshop on creating cat portraits in graphite.  This is one of the examples of the wonderful work they are producing.  Look at those eyes.  They look right into your soul.   Good job, Sandra.

Dancing Swan by Elizabeth Johnson

And now, as promised, today is the day to announce the winner of my drawing from the GYB event held by Vicki of 2 Bags Full.  Thank you Vicki for this lovely event.  I know you worked many hours to create it.  I promised a drawing for a prize on February 1.  The prize I offered was an 10" x 8"  giclee fine art print of my Dancing Swan drawing.   The name chosen through a random drawing was Patty of Patty's Pretty Things.  Patty, I will be shipping this Dancing Swan off to you in a few days.  I hope you enjoy her.

Its a New Day at Creative Pencils

My dear blogging friends, I apologize for my very long absence.  Life has been full and days have run into weeks.  But I have an exciting announcement that does explain some of my time in the last weeks.

Colored Pencils 101
Pencils 301
Creative Pencils is the site where I offer lessons in pencil art.  In the last year it has been a subscription site with a monthly lesson plan.  But it is a new day at Creative Pencils!  It is now filled with workshops so you may choose what you want to learn.  You can even work on more than one workshop at a time, if you like.  The foundational lessons in basic graphite pencil (Pencils 101, 201, & 301) and colored pencils (101 & the upcoming 201) will remain open for students at all times.   And I will always be available to help and critique your work in those lessons.  I love watching the students blossom and grow as they work through those exercises.

Cat Portraits in Graphite
The other more specialized workshops like cat portraits or the upcoming dog portraits, etc. will be offered for a limited time.   And I am available for every workshop for questions, critique, and even just conversation.                                      You can become a member of Creative Pencils simply by enrolling in a workshop of any size and then signing up.  You may remain a member even when you are in between workshops.
Art Journaling with Pencils Studio Group
We have Studio Groups where all members may share photos of their work and join in conversations about subjects they enjoy like art journals, especially those created with artist pencils.  Artist Trading Cards is another studio group and there are others including one discussing using your drawings in your mixed media collage work.
We are having a lot of fun at Creative Pencils!  Come and join in on the fun.
Of course you can do it!  That's what the lessons are for, to teach you.    Pop on over and see our new look!

Announcing Creative Pencils

I am so pleased to announce the grand opening of Creative Pencils. Creative Pencils is a ning site that I have created for the presentation of my video drawing classes.  The Classes begin with a 10 lesson series called Pencils 101.  These beginning 10 lessons will lay a solid foundation for many pencil adventures in the future.  After the completion of Pencils 101 the students move into the monthly lessons.  These lessons are more challenging and continue to help the student progress in their drawing skills.

Once the student is well grounded with the graphite pencil, the lessons progress into the various types of colored pencils.  The site also has studio groups that are like little coffee houses where the students can gather to discuss topics like art journaling, artist trading cards, or how to incorporate their drawings into their mixed media collage.  They often discuss supplies and other practical matters.  It is a fun and inspiring place to learn in a positive atmosphere that generates success.

CP is a subscription site under the umbrella site Eclectic Art Studio created by Zinnia Galliher of Zinnia's Treasures and Roses on My Table. This is the beginning of a great adventure. I hope you will come by and take a look.

Creative Pencils workshops have been moved to Wind and Honey Classes.
